摘要

Z39.50 在万维网上的应用大大促进了Z39.50 标准自身的发展, 也拓展了其应用的空间。本文从Z39.50 的历史与基本概念出发, 阐述了该协议在WWW 上应用的概念、特点及优点, 还介绍了国外几个著名的Z39.50 计划, 并对国外这些计划在实践中所产生的问题进行了剖析, 指出由于Z39.50 自身的原因, 以及其与网络中HTTP 协议的差异等等是造成这些问题的重要因素。最后本文从存在问题以及所得到的深刻启示出发, 呼吁我们应加强区域性的合作, 大力推广Z39.50 的应用。

Abstract：

The applications of Z39.50 protocol on Web not only promote the standard of Z39. 50 itself but also widen its scope for utilization. Based on the history and con cept of Z39.50, the paper describes the concept, characteristics and advantages of Z39.50 applications on WWW, and it introduces a number of famous Z39.50 proje cts abroad as well. By analyzing the problems occurred in the practice, it indic ates that the limitations of Z39.50 standard and the differences between Z39.50 and HTTP protocol are the main facto rs, and it finally po ints out that we should cooperate more in districts and promote more applications of Z39. 50 on Web.
