The system heterogeneity, including platform heterogeneity and syntactic/semantic conflicts, makes the interoperability among different library applications very difficult. As a platform-independent format, XML is a simple, flexible, and powerful way for computers to exchange data and control information. SOAP provides a simple light-weight mechanism in a way of XML file, in order to exchange structured and typed information in dispersive or distributed environment. So in this article the author used SOAP to solve the interoperability problem among different library applications, and a prototype system is designed and developed using the latest technology, such as XML, XSLT, DTD and Java Servlet, which realizes the information search between two library applications.
