Abstract  

This paper introduces the concept of Ontology. It lists the Chinese translations of Ontology, analyses the research focused on Ontology at international level, and its preliminary step in China. The paper also describes the ways of creating Ontology in information retrieval domain, and its relations with thesaurus. Finally, it looks at the perspective of Ontology in information management.
