Existing Library Automation Systems in Chinese Libraries are primarily based on shared file server LANs or centralized host/terminal systems,Both approaches have some drawbacks to meeting the future requirements of the libraries.This paper addresses necessities for development of Client/Server based library automation systems.Issues in selection of hardware,operating systems,communication protocols,DBMS are discussed.Some of the methods of software development are also discussed.
