This paper introduces the technical characteristics of client/server architecture in implementing digital library. The 3-tired client/server architecture and the middle tier technology is explored. This study shows this archite cture offers advantages of high performance, scalability, easier maintenance,object reuse, more effective use of data and networks, and high development productivity.
