The Applications of Z39.50 on Web

Abstract  

The applications of Z39.50 protocol on Web not only promote the standard of Z39. 50 itself but also widen its scope for utilization. Based on the history and con cept of Z39.50, the paper describes the concept, characteristics and advantages of Z39.50 applications on WWW, and it introduces a number of famous Z39.50 proje cts abroad as well. By analyzing the problems occurred in the practice, it indic ates that the limitations of Z39.50 standard and the differences between Z39.50 and HTTP protocol are the main facto rs, and it finally po ints out that we should cooperate more in districts and promote more applications of Z39. 50 on Web.
