Abstract The Medline indexed China-related documents or the documents written by authors in China have increased more than 50 times compared with that in 1966; the amount is on the first in developing countries; and the amounts of important "open door" districts, such as Beijing, Shanghai, have been more than that in Taiwan and close to that in Korea. This facts reflect the success of "develop by two steps" in one aspect, but also the large gaps compared with the developed countries on the per cent and on the amount per capita indexed by Medline; there are also imbalances in different districts in the country. In the course of constructing a high- level socialism "moderately off" society in all fields and " exploring the west China in large scale" , by the intensified developments of important scientific subject, such as gene techniques, medical information techniques, integrated t raditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, modenization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine, the above deficiency should surely be corrected, and the medical culture with, Chinese characterist ics is surely to be prominently placed in the cultures of world nations.
