Research on Metadata Standard for Dissertations Database

The status quo on metadata research and dissertations digital library in China is reviewed. The notion and the function of metadata are pointed out. Several metadata standards in different countries are discussed. A Chinese metadata standard for electronic theses and dissertations is proposed, and its description and implementation are introduced.
