Application of Domain Ontology in Marine Ecology Knowledge Management

Abstract  Aiming at the disadvantages existing in the marine ecology knowledge sharing, this paper proposes an Ontology-based marine ecological knowledge management model. It analyzes the domain knowledge representation, sharing, management and application of marine ecology by the role theory and Ontology construction method, then a heavy-weight marine ecology Ontology is built using Hozo. Based on the Ontology, an optimized information retrieval system named OASIS is developed to test and verify the method. Experimental results show that the method can effectively solve the problems in marine ecology knowledge sharing, and has advantages in information retrieval and semantic reasoning.
