This paper reviews the study of usability evaluation of digital libraries in foreign countries, which includes the theoretical research and practical assessment; then it classifies the focus into interface study, user study, model and structure of usability assessment; at last, it concludes most kinds of methods researchers used in their usability assessments.

This paper provided an overview of passage retrieval, including approaches of division of documents and retrieval algorithms. The difference between text segmentation and passage extraction is also discussed. Several kinds of passage retrieval algorithms and several approach of division of documents are introduced. After comparing of these algorithms and approaches, some research directions of passage retrieval are presented.
This paper introduces the phenomenon of mutually exclusive words and poses the role of mutually exclusive words identification in information retrieval system. The authors indicate that mutually exclusive words can be identified from the pseudo-ambiguity results after segmentation of maximal quasi overlapping ambiguity string, then present the method and result of the mutually exclusive words identification. Also the application of mutually exclusive words is provided.
Present a new method for automatically extracting Search Result Records(SRRs) and Subsequent Result Page Links(SRPLs) from a search engine’s response page. Compare the similarity of nodes on the HTML tags tree of a valid response page to recognize Candidated Records Blocks(CRBs).And recognize SRRs and SRPLs form CRBs based on several heuristic rules.Then building wrapper for them using their location on tags tree. Experiments and comparison with other methods show that the methed is useful and efficient.
Combining the semantic Web technology with the traditional information retrieval technology,this paper gives architecture of Ontology-based Web information gathering, and proposes an approach for calculating the relevance between the Web pages and the predefined topic utilizing Ontology and lexicon. At last, some results of experiment and evaluations are discussed.
On large amount of document category quantity, hierarchical text classification is an effective approach. However, classification methods using the top-down approach suffer from blocking. To address the problem, this paper proposes an improved hierarchical classification method, namely restricted voting method. Our experiments using Rocchio classifiers on the elementary education subjects resource have shown that it can reduce blocking and improve the classification performance.
Based on analyzing the relation between knowledge visualization and information visualization, this paper points out that concept map, semantic map, causal map and visual metaphor can effectively represent tacit knowledge, and then constructs a model of tacit knowledge conversion based on knowledge visualization, considering the requirements of tacit knowledge conversion. Lastly, it discusses key issues in the process of applying the model with a case of Ideaquarium.
