On the basis of the nation wide database survey,status and issues of the databases in China have been statistically analyzed in this paper.A comparison with the development of databases outside China has been made in order to clarify the current level of database industry and the gap to be filled.To tackle the problems confronting us,some suggestions on the further development of electronic information resources have been made.
The components,functions and characteristics of DNRC are briefly described in this paper.The major applications are also introduced.
The Microbial Resource Database of China(MRDC)was founded in 1986.The MRDC includes the databases of catalogue of strain,bacteria names,microbial characters and multimedia database of economic fungi in China.For sharing the information resources of the MRDC in a larger area,a world wide web server in Internet is set up.Its address is http://www.im.ac.cn.This paper introduces the history,current status,and future of the MRDC.The data contents of each sub databases in the MRDC are also described.
