| A Study on XML Exchange Format for MARC |

Abstract This paper analyzes and studies XML exchange format of MARC (LOC’s MARCXML and ISO MarcXchange Schema) based on the analysis of ISO 2709 limitation and requirement for XML metadata data exchange during network age. The principle, framework, functions and significance of XML format are introduced and relation and distinguish between XML and ISO 2709 are indicated. The result of OAI experiment to MARCXML reveals OAI limitation. Finally, A preliminary plan for CNMARC XML format is put forward.
