Abstract Information science(IS) is a science which studies searching of text and other information. Information retrieval(IR) problems are related to meaning and semantics theory. This paper investigates primary the relationship between semantics theory and information retrieval. The picture theory and the theory of language game are discussed in the paper. The authors pay more attention to the consequences for such theories for IR.
