The Scientific Databases of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(SDBCAS) is a group of the scientific and technological databases which covers the broadest range of the displines in China.At present,SDBCAS offers the largest-volume,comprehensive and highly integrated information on a variety of databases. In this paper,a brief introduction of the construction,application and services of SDBCAS is given.Some tentative ideas about its further development is presented also.
The National Scientific and Technical lnformation Network (STINet) has reached a certain size after two year development, But the developing speed is reduced due to the over-high telecommunication cost. So the State Science and Technology Committee of China (SSTCC) has decided to set up the VSAT backbone network which will provide STINet with a communication platform to reduce the telecommunication cost and provide a unified transferring platform for other systems and networks of SSTCC. The article introduces and analyses the current situation of STINet, the possibility and the structur of the above project, the VAST network of SSTCC.

In view of specific characteristics of Chinese morphology,the paper proposes an improved algorithm of single Chinese character Indexing.In the indexing Module,it rejects the Character that can not be the first character of a keyword;in the retrieval module,it matches the keyword directly.The algorithm stores theresults of retrieval and constructs the psot-controlled vocabulary.The algorithm was implemented in the SCIRS (Single Chinese Character Indexing and Retrieval System).
The influencing technical factors of the retrieval software and data storage format in data CD-ROMs are analyzed.Also the selection of data CD-ROMs is discussed based on our practical experience.
