    In this paper,the concept of the Client/Server computer is introduced first.Then it presents three major impact of the Client/Server model on the information technology in the 1990s:(1)It promotes the development of the distributed systems;(2)It provides a good solution for the interlink and interoperation of the het erogeneous systems;(3)It can better meet the requirements of the current on-line transaction processing(OLTP)systems.Finally,the importance of introducing Client/Server in to the design and creation of information systems in the 1990s is emphasized.

    Based on a virtual library automation sy stem structure,this paper discusses mult iple database,network resource interface ,and distributed dynamic linking models for network resource control in such systems.This paper further explores the retrieval operations and design requirements for such systems.

    This article puts forward importance of earlier strategy and preparation on the establishment of library automation system which includes the setting of a goal and the selecting of a good software as well as the making a general program on developing library automation system,and emphasis on the setting up of the bibliographic database,the choosing of the right system management personnel.On the bas is of the investigation the author gives several judgements on choosing automatic software and emphasizes that resource sharing is the main goal of the library automation system.
